The Transportation Assistance Account helps reduce the strain on your paycheck caused by work-related transportation expenses. It works just like a Flexible Spending Account, allowing you to use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible transportation expenses. Eligible expenses include subway, train, and bus costs, as well as work-related parking.

Update: IRS Announces 2009 Monthly Transportation Allowance

Effective January 1, 2009, the IRS pre-tax limit will increase to $230 per month for eligible parking expenses and $120 per month for eligible mass transit expenses, including subway, train, bus and vanpool fare.
